Xebec

the name comes from a modification of French chebec, from Arabic shabbAk and is pronounced Zee-bek or zi-bek

Xebec is a small ship. Many countries used them, mainly in the Mediterranean but France, Sweden and Russia also put them into service.

These vessels could be propelled by sail and oars; the hull shape and sail rig made this type of vessel very fast and manoeuvrable so they were ideal for pirates / corsairs and, of course, good inshore naval ships.
